The event is a three day rugby festival hosted by Mudgee Rugby Union Club involving sporting activities and family entertainment for people of all ages.  It will include pre-season tournament games from Under 7s through to Golden Oldies.  It will also include coaching and skill development opportunities for players and referees at a junior level.

The event is a regional event with approximately 1,000 players plus their families expected to attend from across metropolitan and regional New South Wales.

The event is designed to cater for families so that spectators can have a fun and enjoyable experience as well as those family members who are involved in rugby games.

A highlight of the Grassroots Rugby Festival will be a feature game between The Silver Foxes and an invitational 15 side made up of tournament representatives selected on the day.  The Silver Foxes team comprises ex-Wallabies and prominent rugby players who are keen to promote rugby in the bush and at the same time support the Black Dog Institute.  The Black Dog Institute raises awareness and assists people dealing with depression and bi-polar disorder.

The Grassroots Rugby Festival 2010 is an inaugural event which will become a key feature on the annual Rugby calendar in the future.
